The Village of Wellington came about in the 1950s when a gentleman named Charles Oliver Wellington purchased the land. It was originally used for agriculture, however, Wellington started to really develop in the 1970s when it was approved by Palm Beach County officials as a planned unit development (PUD). The Village of Wellington finally turned into an independent municipality after it was incorporated in 1995.
